McPHEE, DAUGHTRY, MAROON 5 TALK AMERICAN IDOL FINALISTS

American Idol finalist Daughtry talks about his reason for doing American Idol and his rock idols, tourmates Nickelback.

American Idol 2007 wraps up later tonight, Wednesday May 22, and we recently got a chance to ask some former contestants and Maroon 5 about their thoughts on who will win. The finalists are Jordin Sparks and Blake Lewis.

We asked former contestant Katherine McPhee at this past weekend’s Zootopia about the happenings on the show the last two weeks.

“I think probably, maybe Jordan will win, but I want Blake to win. I like Blake a lot. You know, he’s just cool. He’s got the cool thing. Excuse me while I pick my nose. It itches. (on why Melinda was voted off) “The Westerns finally got to their senses — not in a bad way towards Melinda — but the westerners started voting finally. I always thought that for sure Melinda would win because of the southern vote, and she’s from the south. Every year there’s been a southern person who’s won. I didn’t win, boo hoo. I don’t know I think it’s… I love Melinda.. What was the question? Why did she (get voted off)? I don’t know? Maybe it’s just that she didn’t connect. I don’t know.”

Former idol contestant Chris Daughtry was very diplomatic as far as his answer.

“Whoever wins. We’ve been on tour since the end of January so there’s not a whole lot of TV watching. I’ve probably seen, like, two episodes or three.”

Maroon 5, who performed last week on American Idol, said they have some dirt on Lewis, the talented singer.

“..and as far as a choice, I’d just have to go with Blake. He used to be a big fan of the band. He used to be a hustler back in the day, playing his demos for us four year ago in Seattle. He’s been working at it a long time, so I go with him.”
