DAUGHTRY SAVIOR OF MAINSTREAM ROCK?

Chris Daughtry’s debut album is full of hits for both rock and pop, but can he bring rock back to Top 40 dominance?

Rock has taken a back seat to pop, Hip-Hop, and R&B on the Top 40 chart in the last few years with very rare exceptions. Chris Daughtry has scored several cross-over hits, and it hasn’t affected his status as a staple of modern and active rock radio stations. Some have even gone as far to say that Daughtry, whose debut album has now sold three million, is rock’s saving grace.

We asked the former American Idol contestant what he thinks of being a savior for mainstream rock.

“I don’t even know what rock is lacking. I think it’s lacking attention. I think that’s the biggest thing it’s lacking. If I brought any kind of attention to it, that’s a pretty amazing thing, and I’m proud of it.”
