DAUGHTRY SAVIOR OF MAINSTREAM ROCK?
Chris Daughtry’s debut album is full of hits for both rock and pop, but can he bring rock back to Top 40 dominance? |
Rock has taken a back seat to pop, Hip-Hop, and R&B on the Top 40 chart in the last few years with very rare exceptions. Chris Daughtry has scored several cross-over hits, and it hasn’t affected his status as a staple of modern and active rock radio stations. Some have even gone as far to say that Daughtry, whose debut album has now sold three million, is rock’s saving grace. |
We asked the former American Idol contestant what he thinks of being a savior for mainstream rock. |
“I don’t even know what rock is lacking. I think it’s lacking attention. I think that’s the biggest thing it’s lacking. If I brought any kind of attention to it, that’s a pretty amazing thing, and I’m proud of it.” |
