You would think High School Musical heart throb Zac Efron is the perfect choice for the suave ladies man Link Larkin in Hairspray. It’s all about the hair and believe it or not it was Zac’s blonde locks that almost cost him the role so dying it black gave him the edge he needed.

“Link he is the sort of stud of his high school and he’s also one of the stars of the Corny Collins Show which is the local dance TV show similar to American Bandstand. It’s based off the Buddy Dean Show. And so he has sort of a following in his home town and he knows it. He uses it to his advantage.”

Zac admired Link’s choice to fall in love with Tracy Turnblad rather than the most popular girl Amber played by Brittany Snow.

“He takes a really cool sort of journey because he meets and falls in love with Tracy. She’s sort of his opposite. She’s not the coolest girl in school. She’s got several little quirks about her. But what he falls in love with is her qualities and her self-confidence and sense of humor and inside beauty. And that’s what’s really neat to play about Link is eventually he gives into these feelings. It’s a great decision. He falls in love with an amazing girl.”

Zac hasn’t graduated from High School Musical just set reprising Troy in the summer sequel High School Musical 2.
