XAVIER RUDD REFLECTS BACK ON HIS JOURNEY WITH WHITE MOTH
For the past several years, Xavier Rudd has brought his incredible gift of songwriting and musicianship to a multitude of fans around the world. It was on these musical journeys that Rudd gathered inspiration through his many amazing experiences for his new album, ‘White Moth.’ On his new record, Rudd continues his spiritual journey through life and once again writes songs about the sad state of our environment and the love of his family all while playing an amazing list of instruments, all at the same time. |
We caught up with Xavier to discuss ‘White Moth’ and the fact that this is a very deep album for him. |
“It’s a reflection of my journey. My music has always been that for me. The last couple of years has been really powerful and I’ve had an amazing opportunity to travel to all different parts of the earth and connect with amazing people, places and spirit. Lots of amazing connections with aboriginal elders from all over Australia and North America and we were able to capture some of those traditional song lines on the album. It’s a deep album for me. It’s a deep one.” |
Xavier Rudd has been blessed with very old spirit and it shines through on his albums and in his extraordinary performances as well. We caught up Xavier to discuss ‘White Moth’ being perhaps the deepest of his albums yet. |
“It was my wife’s thirtieth and our six year old found a white moth in amongst the coral, this beautiful white moth and it stayed with him for about three hours. He put it down and it wouldn’t fly away and he had this kind of connection with the moth that we decided that it was the spirit of my wifes grandmother coming through for her on her birthday. And they have a connection that’s kind of a whoe other story. Him and I wrote a song that night and it was kind of like a lullaby called white moth for her and we sang it to her. It wasn’t going to be part of the album but then we ended up putting it on the album because she’s been such a supporter of what I do for so many years. The album reflects on that, so it made sense to call it ‘White Moth.” |
Although many music fans might not know this, Xavier Rudd is one of the leading musicians in terms of on site CD sales at America’s biggest festival, Bonnaroo. Each time that Xavier has performed in front of close to 80,000 hard core music fans at Bonnaroo he continues to turn heads with his innovative style and one of a kind stage set up which includes his full arsenal of instruments. We also caught up with Xavier to discuss his thoughts on Bonnaroo and that impact it’s had on his career. |
“The first time I played here (Bonnaroo) it was one of my first trips to the U.S. and it was a spin out for me because I come from a small town at the bottom of Australia and here I was on this huge festival site with all these cool people and such good energy. I remember my show lifted me through the roof and it was such a good vibe and peoples energy was strong. Ever since that, playing around the states people always mention Bonnaroo. It seems like people come from everywhere, so for me it was a great start to coming to this country.” |
Xavier Rudd continues his North American Tour in support of ‘White Moth’ with dates extending until August 7th in New Jersey. Rudd has also been hand picked by The Dave Matthews Band to open a few shows starting August 1st and running until August 7th. Look for Xavier’s first single off his new album ‘Better People’ as once again Rudd brings his socio political take on being a positive influence on the planet. |
