Wyclef Jean returned to his native Haiti this week to participate in his Yele Haiti Foundation’s Yele Fest. The rapper performed in front of 50,000 people in Haiti on Friday (December 1st). Jean partnered with the United Nations World Food Programme agency to create the one week festival that runs from November 30th to December 5th. The goal of the Yele Fest is to encourage artistic and cultural development as well as to boost the country’s economy. |
WFP’s Representative in Haiti, Mamadou Mbaye, said, “Wyclef Jean very cleverly uses culture as a means of addressing contemporary social issues, for he has seen the importance of art and culture in enhancing and changing people’s lives in all areas of society.” |
