VV Brown, having seen her debut album “Traveling Like the Light” peak at #30 on The U.K. Charts will look to duplicate her success across the pond in the U.S. With both The Los Angeles Times and UK newspaper The Independent naming Brown an artist to watch in 2009, it seems she is well on her way. For “Traveling Like the Light” VV Brown took an experimental approach to the recording process and even performed all the instruments as well. |
Artisan News caught up with VV Brown to get her thougths on having a lot to say on her experimental debut album “Traveling Like the Light.”rn |
“The songs were written in about a week because I had so much that I wanted to say but the recording process was really experimental because I couldn’t afford to pay producers any money. I didn’t have a record deal, so I had to make the record myself, I had to play all the instruments and save up my own money to get studio time. I played the bass and the drums and the xylophone and all those kinds of things. The album came out of a very experimental place.” |
VV also talked about the song writing being a very cathartic experience for her after breaking up with her boyfriend while she was living in Los Angeles. |
“Yeah it was a very cathartic experience for me and I think when you’re an artist and you write your own music that’s a natural part of what you do. You express what’s going on in your life and that’s exactly what I was doing and it just happened to be about an idiot who broke my heart.” |
VV also talked about her master plan for taking over the world. |
“Yeah in The U.K. we worked so hard this year. We got a fifteen date U.K. tour which is really exciting, which is selling out. In France we’re doing a show called Ra Ta Ta which is the equivalent of The Late Night Show in America, which is massive for us in France. Yeah, just trying to take over territories slowly but surely really and take over the world.” |
VV Brown is currently developing a graphic novel with friend David Allain, who directed and produced the video for VV’s hit single “Crying Blood”. VV Brown in currently touring The U.K. in support of “Traveling Like the Light” with dates extending until November 23rd in London.
