WILL THE OSCAR GO TO BABEL AND ALEJANDRO GONZALEZ INARRITU

Babel is nominated for an Oscar for best motion picture. The film interlocks four stories which begins with a married American couple played by Oscar nominee Cate Blanchett and Brad Pitt on vacation in the Moroccan desert who become stranded when Blanchett is hit by a stray bullet.

The film directed by Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu also nominated for best director talks about the challenges of shooting the film in many different locations.

“All the limitations that you have in the desert and the very, very humble towns in the middle, it wasn’t easy. And then basically it was like four films. We started with Morocco. Then we have to close and open again offices in Mexico, then close and fly again to Japan. It was like to do three or four films so the logistics of it is traveling like a gypsy in circles. It was an intense experience and difficult, but fun.”

Alejandro was most proud of his talented cast who didn’t complain about the gritty conditions.

“I consider myself privileged to have had the trust of Cate Blanchett and Brad Pitt, Gael, Adriana Barazza, Koji Yakusho which are actors who were really very brave and to take this role and be an ensemble part of the film. It was not a fancy film, not a big budget commodity kind of thing. It was tough conditions.”

Babel is nominated for six Oscars also including Adriana Barazza and Rinko Kikuchi for supporting roles, film editing, and original score.
