WILL I AM ANTIK CLOTHING LINE ON HOLD DUE TO POLITICS OF FASHION
Black Eyed Peas mastermind Will i am talks about putting his antik clothing line on hold due to politics. |
Will.i.am, known as the Grammy Award winning producer, songwriter, and lead vocalist with the multi-platinum selling band Black Eyed Peas also has an extremely successful clothing line as well. The clothing line, dubbed i.am clothing, features each piece of apparel personally signed and numbered by Will.i.am, making each piece in the collection original and one of a kind. Known on stage and around town for his eclectic taste in outfits, Will.i.am began designing his own signature line in 2001 and released it to the fashion world in 2005, after attendeding LA’s Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising. |
Rumors had been swirling in the fashion industry that i.am clothing was set to launch an antik (said like ‘antique’) line of clothing, but after a few discussions on how the antique line was to be distributed, the idea was put on hold. We caught up with Will.i.am to get his thoughts on why his antik fashion line didn’t happen just yet. |
“Oh the antik line didn’t happen. Too much politics. I don’t want my stuff to be in Macy’s right away. I want it to be in boutiques. They wanted to just, you know utilize the popularity and celebrity and do the okie doke.” |
i.am clothing is a high-end men’s and women’s fashion line of streetwear, consisting of blazers, shirts, waistcoats, skirts, pants, and scarves, all incorporating the eclectic taste of Will.i.am. While The Black Eyed Peas are on hiatus, Will.i.am has kept himself very busy, producing two videos inspired by Barack Obama that have become internet sensations. The vidoes “Yes We Can” and “We are the Ones” features Will.i.am along with celebrity musicians, actors and athletes showing their support for Democratic Presidential hopeful Barack Obama. |
