WE THE KINGS CHECK YES TO BOGUS JOURNEY
We The Kings are embarking on a tour with The Academy Is and discuss “Check Yes Juliet” and say they’re not really kings. |
We The Kings kicked off their co-headlining tour called “Bill & Trav’s Bogus Journey” with The Academy Is… The tour features guest bands Carolina Liar and Hey Monday, and the band is sure to pack the place thanks to the success of “Check Yes Juliet,” which is still at Number 24 on the pop radio charts after 11 weeks on. |
We got together with Travis and Danny from We The Kings at the Vans Warped Tour this summer. Travis explained what inspired him to write “Check Yes Juliet.” |
“When we were all younger we were kind of like the dorks in middle school or like the underdogs, if you will, and we all like had a high expectation of like, we always went to try and find like the really cool girl whose also attractive, and all these girls that were way out of our league, and I was like a dirty little red head kid so I tried the best, and its kind of that idea of like the underdog going for the girl and actually prevailing and getting the girl of your dreams. It’s kind of a love story but I use the middle school reference of like the Check yes or no or circle yes no or whatever it was.” |
Travis then continued on about how they came together as a band when they were kids in elementary and middle school. |
“We all met in elementary school and middle school, and that’s where we get our name, we all went to King Middle School. So, if you didn’t know it’s not like an egotistical name like ‘We The Kings’ it’s more like we wanted to give a little background history and a little character to the band on how long we’ve been friends. It’s not like we got a sweet guitarist from L.A. or like a drummer from New York, we’re all just kind of like decent at our instruments, and we just, we love playing together. It’s more about the friendship than anything else.” |
