As the world continues to morn the tragic death of Michael Jackon, who passed away on June 25th, 2009 from cardiac arrest many questions continue to linger however, one thing is for certain and that is Michael Jackson was the King of Pop and began proving that at a very early age. One of the biggest celebrity deaths of all time, news spread quick once the word got out Michael had passed on and fans across the globe continue to buy his album sending Michael back to the top of the charts. With an amazing musical career spanning five decades, Michael Jackson’s private life had been in turmoil with numerous court cases involving alleged child molestation charges, although he was never actually convicted of any crime. It’s easy to see Michael’s immense talent and it’s also clear he was quite a polarizing figure in society. As The Warped Tour kicked off it’s 15th Anniversary Tour many of the bands performing on the opening weekend still had thoughts on the tragic death of Michael Jackon. |
Artisan News caught up with Saosin to get their thoughts on having a weird connection after the death of Michael Jackson. |
“Ok my first show was Michael Jackson in ’88 at the Bad Tour and the day he died I was at Target buying toiletries and getting ready for this tour. Buying a tooth brush or whatever or deodorant or whatever and I walked by the essential records section and I saw “Essential Michael Jackson” I picked it up and I hadn’t bought a record in like two years. I just download stuff on iTunes. So, to buy the actual record that day was pretty strange. I went home and found out, looked at the receipt and it turns out that I was buying his record the second the doctor called 911. When he was on the phone with 911 I was paying for my CD at 12:31 that’s insane. So, I don’t know it’s a crazy day and I think all of us have always really dug his performing and yeah, it’s weird.” |
Thrice and Gallows also talked about what an amazing performer Michael Jackson was. |
“(Thrice) I’m a big fan of Michael Jackson. It doesn’t like, I don’t know maybe I’m cold hearted but it doesn’t make me really sad. I’m bummed that he’s not going to make anymore music and I was hoping his career would turn around. The last record wasn’t the best but I don’t know it’s a bummer. I always just felt bad for the guy. He had a really weird life.” “(Gallows) It was unexpected to say the least. Yeah my Mom actually stayed up till 4am watching the news back home. So, it affected a lot of people but the guy had a rough time. A lot of people say different things about him but he was a talented musician and singer. At the end of the day the dude invented the genre of Pop music nowadays, the Pop music that we now know, so it’s a shame.” |
Alexisonfire and Aiden also shared their thoughts on not being affected by the death of the King of Pop. |
“(Alexisonfire) I don’t really care. I mean I feel like, if he had died fifteen years ago I would have been ‘Oh that’s a bummer!’ but really for the last fifteen years it’s just been Michael Jackson did this, Michael Jackson did that, he’s turning into a Martian. I don’t know I’m not really that bummed out. It’s one of those things that you hear about. The richest guy in the world goes nuts and it’s happened a lot of times. It seems like people don’t get the point.” “(Aiden) You know the guy wrote some man but in the last few years of his life he’s just a parody of himself. The guy was with little kids, it’s gross. So, no it doesn’t affect me and I don’t really care. Sorry, if you’re a fan, but I don’t care.” |
The Jackson family has set the memorial for Michael for Tuesday July 7th at The Staples Center in Los Angeles, and they also announced close to 11,000 tickets will be given away for free. |
