WANDA DE JESUS SHOOTS BETTER THAN A MAN

Wanda de Jesus found that women are a better shot than men when she studied firearms for her role.

Wanda de Jesus plays the matriarch of a family whose past sins of the father are catching up to the present in Illegal Tender.

Making some wise investments from her husband’s drug money, Wanda’s character is able to keep her family safe in very comfortable surroundings but always wary of being found so she becomes proficient with firearms to protect them.

“I’ve done movie shooting before but this time around I wanted to live in the survival mode and vigilance that it takes so I went to the right people. I went to a police officer. I went to a police academy, learned my firearms. And it’s not just about firearms. Something happens to you when you are behind a firearm. You understand, respect it’s power, understand the consequences, understand the rules of engagement and the psychology and the emotional aftermath that it takes to engage that way.”

Wanda went to the professionals to learn the rules of engagement and discovered how good her shot really is.

“You know what, excellent. The weapons master said, ‘do you realize how good you are?’ I think he wanted to get me into speed shooting but women in general are better shots than me. Did you hear that? Women in general are better shots and here’s the reason why and I can tell you why. Men pull the trigger and in efficiency and accuracy it’s really not a pull but a hugging the trigger and clicking and it takes a little bit of finesse and women tend to have that better eye hand coordination and not that much muscle so it’s something for you women to know.”

Wanda also wants to shoot down stereotypes empowering Latin women with the role. Illegal Tender is currently playing in theaters.
