WAHLBERG MAKES HIS MARK IN SHOOTER
Michael Pena had a hard time portraying the near picture perfect life of his real-life character for World Trade Center. Keywords: CSI, The Shield, Nicolas Cage. |
Mark Wahlberg stars in Shooter as a former Marine marksman who retreats into the mountains of Colorado after his best friend is killed in action. Mark is called back into duty under the guise that his expertise as a long range sniper would be saving the president’s life from a sniper’s assassination threat. |
Mark who met with a real Marine sniper early on to train for the role talks about his character. |
“He’s not the right guy to mess around with. They made a huge mistake by setting this particular guy up. He’s one of probably the best four shots in the entire world at any given time. He’s a gunnery sergeant in the marines, very no nonsense, very patriotic guy but was left on one mission in Africa where he lost his best friend and his spotter. So he left the Marines, went into isolation and basically they come to him.” |
Mark had to dodge from houses exploding behind him in just one take trusting the safety crew and director Antoine Fuqua, and says the results made for a great action movie. |
“This is the kind of movie that I would run out and see. This is the kind of movie that they don’t make any more. This is the kind of really smart character driven action movie that has a point of view, raises some questions and takes a pretty strong look at certain things. They haven’t made those movies, the kind that I really enjoy watching since the 70s.” |
Recently Mark proved he was a good shot hitting his mark on a Canadian television intern with a paint ball gun. |
