Joaquin Phoenix and Mark Wahlberg reunite since working together as best friends in the rail yards of Queens in The Yards to playing brothers on opposite sides of the law in We Own The Night. |
We Own The Night also marks the second time Joaquin has worked with The Yards filmmaker James Gray. He talks about the advantages and down side of working with people you know. |
“Part of what’s great about working with new people is that they don’t really know you. It’s much easier to convince them that you’re something or whatever it is that you may need to do. And then when you somebody really well the benefit of that is James who’s always incredibly perceptive, on The Yards I thought he was amazing knowing when I was being truthful or not now even moreso he knows me much better and can kind of see through that. I think the same thing with Mark; it certainly gave us a sense of history.” |
That sense of history and familiarity also played a part with Wahlberg relating to Phoenix as his brother. |
“I love him to death. I was so excited when I got an opportunity to work with him again and James because obviously there’s a comfort level and a familiarity that you don’t have with most people. He brings it every time. He’s one of the most talented actors out there and you know he expects it in return. We had a great time getting to know each other on The Yards and I think with this one we were able to push each other a little bit more.” |
Joaquin can also be seen in the upcoming film Resurrection Road. We Own The Night opens Friday, October 12th in theaters. |
