Drummer Vinnie Paul of supergroup Hellyeah is currently in the studio working on new material for the bands up coming new album, which will be the follow up to their hit debut self titled album which sold over 500,000 units. Consisting of Paul along with Chad Gray and guitarist Greg Tribbett from Mudvayne, guitarist Tom Maxwell from Nothingface, and bassist Bob Zilla from Damageplan, Hell Yeah are in the process of deciding which label to release it under as their one album contract with Epic expired after completion. After the tragic death of Vinnie’s brother Dimebagg Darrell, who was killed on stage at a show in Columbus, Oh in 2004, Vinnie Paul wasn’t even sure if he would play music again, but eventually came around and Hell Yeah clearly connect with their legion of fans. One of the other ways Vinny Paul connects with his legion of fans is his monthly column in Revolver Magazine which he’s been doing for years. |
Artisan News caught up with Vinnie Paul to get his thoughts on why he’s so passionate about writing the column in Revolver. |
“Oh I love it man. That’s one of my very most passions. I wait till I’m good and hung over so I got a sense of humor but I got just enough serious enough to try to maybe help some of these people with some of their questions. I appreciate all the questions from prison, those are very unique and basically just thanks for writing me. I have a lot of fun. Keep it up and keep them comin’.” |
Perhaps Vinnie Paul is best known for starting the legendary metal band Pantera with his brother Dimebag and then they both went on to form Damage Plan after Pantera broke up. Paul did take a brief hiatus from writing the column after Dimebag’s death but continued giving advice to his fans regarding such topics as music, life, sex and any thing else that peaked his interest. The column has recently included Cristina Scabbia from Lacuna Coil fielding questions as well. As of press time Hell Yeah have not announced a release date as they continue working in the studio on the new album. |
