VING RHAMES THINKS BIG BOI CAN ACT
(VIDEO) Big Boi stars as Rooster in Idlewild playing opposite veteran actor Ving Rhames who thinks he’s got some chops. |
OutKast member Big Boi billed as Antwan Patton on screen has contributed plenty of songs for films but Idlewild is only his second attempt at acting playing Rooster, the proprietor of a 1930s speak easy where prostitution, and booze running are some of the club’s attractions. The musician got plenty of props from co-star Ving Rhames who was impressed with his flair for improvisation. |
Big Boi is also proved to be a pretty snappy dancer as well adding his own Dizzy Gillespie dancing style to the choreography in the film. Idlewild opens Friday. |
“I guess the one I can remember the most is working with Ving Rhames, you know. We’re inside the church and having a discussion with him and Faizon (Love) and Terrence (Howard) and Paula (Patton) and we were all at the table and for everybody to do their lines it was like an orchestra. And at the end of the scene sometimes we’d just add on and do freestyle stuff and do different things and play off each other. It was real organic and Ving was like, ‘have you done this before?’ Because it was like freestyle with acting and freestyle with music is different. You got to be right up on it so we did a little bit at the table and he said a line and I said a line and he said, ‘wow.’ He went and told my mom, ‘do you know what your son did today?’ Wow Ving Rhames thinks I’m pretty good, that’s good.” |
