Rumors surrounding the demise of Velvet Revolver are false, according to the band’s bassist Duff McKagan. The band has started work on their new album, the follow-up to their highly successful debut titled Contraband. The all-star band features ex-Guns N’ Roses members McKagan, Matt Sorum, and Slash paired with ex-Stone Temple Pilots singer Scott Weiland.

McKagan gave a sneak peak at what the band has been up to.

“Uh, you know we’re just kind of in the middle of the whole thing. The songs are written, we’ve recorded stuff, we’re going to continue recording.”

When asked how the rumors started, the bassist had his theory.

“There was obviously some sort of catalyst for the first rumor. I don’t know. I mean it’s rock and roll. There’s nothing that’s really safe, and with the internet it’s like once something gets started… I’ve seen all kinds of stuff. I was in rehab last week in Washington. Actually, I was in Seattle with my wife and kids on their spring break, but it was on the internet that I was in rehab in Washington State.”

Meanwhile, fans should expect a Velvet Revolver album by the end of 2006 or early 2007.
