VEER UNION TURNS FROM IMPRESSIVE PAST
The Veer Union is having success with “Seasons,” but the band’s name rings true with a musically impressive past. |
Veer Union is not just some kids who decided to form a band and got hot. The band comprised of Crispin Earl on vocals, Eric Schraeder on guitar & backing vocals, James Fiddler on lead guitar, and Marc Roots on bass, and Neil Beaton drums have cut their teeth struggling with other bands in the Vancouver area. With this being said, their new album Against The Grain is very appropriate as is their name Veer Union. |
The band explain the meaning behind their name. |
(Crispin) “Veer means to change direction. So, we wanted to change direction from all the political BS that we were getting swept up in.” (Eric) “We actually both left record deals, major label record deals to form this band.” (Crispin) “Not necessarily because we were having problems with our label, but because the band’s…” (Eric) “…The inner workings, the politics just got to us…” (Crispin) “And then the Union came from, our mold just works so well together we need to have three other guys that work just as well as we do. And we were blessed enough to find the three guys when we were working on our firs record, these guys just came in and kept on hanging with us…and we gelled just as well musically as we did personally, so we became the Veer Union.” |
Crispin also explains what he Veered away from and it’s pretty impressive. |
“I actually used to sing, and play drums in a prog(ressive) rock band. I was right up front. It was interesting. I wore a headset, and I also played to a click and played odd time signatures at the same time I was singing. And now when I think back, I had no idea how I did that! (laughs)” |
Veer Union’s first single from the album is “Seasons,” and it’s on the march upwards on almost every chart. The song is at Number 35 on FMQB’s Alternative Rock airplay chart, Number 13 on the Active Rock radio airplay chart, and Number 17 on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock chart. |
