The renown CBS news program 60 Minutes recently spent three weeks in U2’s world for a feature that comprised one third of the program. Ed Bradley interviewed the band and followed them from gigs to rehearsals to their second homes in France. |
One of the most memorable lines of the interview came courtesy of singer, Bono, who replied to Bradley’s, ‘You’re not a cheap date, are you?” He also is proud of his work to get the U.S. to help out Africans. |
Bono said, “I’m not a cheap date. I’m in the checks business…not just people signing the checks but people cashing them. I’m willing to use the currency of my celebrity if that’s what it takes to get there.” Bono added that people said that he was out of his mind if he thought that the U.S. would give drugs to help combat AIDS and other diseases. He said that quite a few Africans now “owe their lives to America.” |
Not only did the band shine and get introduced to a whole new audience on 60 Minutes, fans can check out interview footage that never made the program on CBS.com. |
U2 continues its tour in support of How To Dismantle an atomic bomb with two shows at Madison Square Garden in the midst of their second leg of dates. |
