TYPE O NEGATIVE ABOUT TOURING AND ROADRUNNER
Type O Negative is touring Europe and Peter Steele gave us the lowdown on his mindset to touring and the Roadrunner label split. |
Peter Steele of Type O Negative is on a tour supporting their latest release, Dead Again, and they’re in Europe playing the festival circuit. |
Steele is not a fan of touring and he once said that if he could fly everyone to Brooklyn he’d be a lot more comfortable. Asked if things have changed now that the band has a semi-complete touring schedule with new label SPV, Steele said that he’s still able to tour the way he wants. |
“Yes, but I’ve also realized things can be done my way. At this point I have tried to compromise with people and have been unsuccessful. I mean, I’m a really huge fan of Adolf Hitler and Joseph Stalin — left and right. You know why? Because what they said, went. And I’m pretty sure that Adolf and Joe said, ‘F–k talking to people anymore. It’s either my way or the highway.’ that’s why Adolf Hitler built the Audobahn — the ultimate highway.” |
Dead Again is the band’s first album for SPV, after being with Roadrunner their whole careers, and Steele talked about leaving his label home. |
“Actually, we had intentions of resigning with Roadrunner, but I’m not doing this for my health. Look at me. I’m old and I’m f–kin’ decrepid. SPV just made a better offer and so we went with them. That’s that. The owner of Roadrunner or Roadracer or whatever they call themselves, I still consider him to be a friend, but last autumn when the Best Of Type O Negative came out, and they didn’t even tell me about it I was kind of put off about that. I mean since Carnivore — 1983, 1984 — I’m the person who has been signed to Roadrunner records the longest. I’m like the granfather of failure. After 19 years on this label they couldn’t ask my opinion? And not even tell me about a Best Of album? The Best Of Type O Negative? I mean that’s an oxymoron right there.” |
Type O Negative’s Bloody Kisses was Roadrunner Records first platinum release, and Steele, who recently completed a short prison sentence, says he’s attained more record milestones since then. |
“I mean I went from playing in bars to playing behind bars. So now I have the gold, platinum, and criminal records. It works well.” |
Bloody Kisses featured the songs “Christian Woman” and “Black No. 1” the ultimate song about evil girls and Halloween. The band has dates booked through the summer, and rumors are swirling they’ll be added to the forthcoming Slayer and Marilyn Manson tour. |
