TRIVIUM SAYS GRAMMYS DON’T GET METAL
Trivium says the Grammy Committee doesn’t understand or “get” the metal category. |
Trivium was not nominated for a Grammy, however the band says that the metal genre is not the award show’s forte. In the first Metal Grammy in 1988, the Recording Academy got egg on its face by choosing Jethro Tull over Metallica. Now nearly 21 years later, it’s Metallica who may be the ones who are the familiar names to the Academy, leaving many in the genre scratching their heads. |
Guitarist Corey said before Metallica took home the Metal Grammy last weekend, that Metal is not given any respect by the National Association of Recording Arts and Sciences, who are focused on other music. |
“If we got nominated it would probably be like, Trivium, like Slipknot, Slayer, and Metallica, and obviously Metallica is going to win by default. Because everybody is like, ‘I know f–kin’ Metallica.’ It’s like there’s no… I’m sure people on the committee were voting for like the new Celine Dion garbage, or Alicia Keys Best Female Alternative Solo Keyboard Song or whatever the f–k they have for categories now. They look at the Metal category, and just go, ‘Whoever’s the name I know.’ So there’s not really… The Metal category is kind of a joke because they don’t even have it at the Grammys. You have to go down the street. It’s like before the awards at Applebee’s down the street in a conference room or some s–t. So, I’m not really looking for a Grammy.” |
Trivium are out on the road with Coheed and Cambria and Slipknot in support of their latest release, Shogun. |
