The 30 foot tall robots starring in Transformers took over the July 4th weekend box office earning 67 million dollars pureeing Ratatouille with 29 million. |
Director Michael Bay says the success of Transformers is due to its star Shia LaBeouf withstanding the intense action going on around him. |
“And it’s big physical stuff, big stuff that’s moving on the set like the helicopter tail that had to smash in at 25 miles an hour over Shia’s head. We put actors in situations where we know it’s so safe but it looks very dangerous.” |
Shia remembers things a little differently. He says the expensive equipment was more protected from huge explosions than the actors. |
“Michael put a camera on the ground and it’s in a bullet proof box so you don’t break the camera and your face is right next to it. And your thinking is they’re protecting the camera and I’m sitting right here, why don’t I have a bullet proof box.” |
Even Live Free or Die Hard with all its high octane action couldn’t outdo the onslaught of director Bay pulling in only 17 million over the holiday weekend. |
