TOM GABEL OF AGAINST ME RELEASES HEART BURNS
Against Me’s Tom Gabel discusses his solo album “Heart Burns” and why it needed to be recorded as a solo album instead of the next Against Me record |
Tom Gabel, lead vocalist and principle songwriter for Against Me! has released his solo album “Heart Burns” and although he originally thought he was writing songs for the bands next album, it just made sense to record the album as a solo record. Gabel once again brought in the producing skills of Butch Vig and Billy Bush, who have worked with Against Me! in the past and booked some studio time in between the bands busy tour schedule. With songs like “100 Years of War,” “Cowards Sing at Night” and “Amputations” it’s clear the album touches on the current political climate in a very important election year. |
We caught up with Tom Gabel to get his thoughts on recording “Heart Burns” and the album being inspired by current politics. |
“I started writing last January 1st thinking that I was writing for the next Against Me! record but I ended up writing songs that were topically really relevant to current political events with the election and everything like that. Because we were touring so much and weren’t practicing the songs as a band I just felt the songs should be recorded more so like that, by myself. So I booked some time in between time in the studio with Butch and Billy, who we did “New Wave” with and ended up recording a seven song EP.” |
Tom Gabel is currently touring in support of “Heart Burns.” His solo tour kicked off October 29th in Ventura, California and extends until November 21st in Handem, Connecticut. Gabel has never been one to rest much, so look for Against Me! to get back into the studio in early 2009 to begin recoding a follow up to “New Wave.” |
