Jared Leto talks about 30 Seconds to Mars project Faces of Mars which was a way to thank their die hard fans! |
Multi-platinum rock band 30 Seconds to Mars have released their latest album “This is War” and the album features an innovative cover art idea featuring 2,000 different album covers featuring individual photos of fans and friends from around the world. The band asked fans to submit pictures of themselves and after selecting the best 2,000 images they were used as covers for the album itself and shipped randomly to stores around the world. A few of the contributions to Faces of Mars include photos of Jared and Shannon Leto’s Mother, manager Irving Azoff, Bam Margera, Kat Von D, Conan O’Brien along with bands Cobra Starship, Chevelle and Street Drum Corps. |
Artisan News recently caught up with Jared Leto to get his thoughts on asking fans for their help in gather photos to use for Faces on Mars. |
“Faces of Mars was a really fun thing to do. We actually asked people to send in their photos from all over the world and we put them on the cover of our CD. So their are people from all over the world on the CD covers so when you go to the store and look at it you see all these different faces. There’s actually some friends and other artists and people of note and everyone from Bam Margera to this guy, what’s your name again? John Coulter.” |
Artisan News also caught up with celebrity Tattoo artist, Kat Von D from the hit show LA Inked to get her thoughts on being apart of Faces of Mars. |
“Yeah, yeah I’m a super big fan and it was really cool. Jared asked me to take a picture for part of the album cover thing that he’s doing and I thought that was such a great project, especially involving fans. That’s super cool. They just sent me a picture of it hopefully we’ll be able to see something today. But it was really cool the way they composed it.” |
“This is War” is inspired by a recent lawsuit brought on by the bands record label, Virgin Records who filed a $30 Million dollar lawsuit claiming they failed to deliver the three albums required by their contract. The lawsuit has since been resolved and the two have worked out their differences. Thirty Seconds to Mars will kick off their 2010 Tour in support of “This is War” with dates beginning in Europe on Feb 19th in The U.K. and extending until March 23rd, in Switzerland. Look for North American dates to be announced in the near future. |
