THE USED TALK DRUMMER SPLIT, LIARS DEBUTS AT NUMBER FIVE
The Used’s latest release ‘Lies For The Liars’ has debuted at Number 5 on the Billboard 200 album chart, and the band says the drummer change was a good thing. |
The Used’s new album Lies For The Liars has debuted at Number Five on the Billboard 200 album chart. The album is spurred on by the single “The Bird And The Worm.” In between this album and their last album, In Love And Death, The Used also severed ties with drummer Branden Steineckert, who is now the full-time drummer for Rancid. |
Quinn Allman and Jeph Howard talk about making the change and how that change fueled the cohesiveness and camaraderie on Lies For The Liars. |
[Allman] “Everything’s changed. I think everyone gets along way better now than we ever have — the fact being that I think that we’re aware that we’re all not obligated to do the same thing. We all love to do the same thing. It’s more about that I think. Dan Whitesides, who is our new drummer, he’s just the heartbeat.” [Howard] “He’s the tie in the knot…. He’s the knot in the tie.” |
The Used talk about how new drummer Dan Whitesides fits in. |
[Allman] “Um, it was a process, but I don’t know. I don’t wanna…” [Howard] “…It’s just a friend from home that we’ve known. We’ve played in bands with him for a while now, and we jammed with him a bunch of times even before that. Dan’s one of a kind (laughs). Personality, drumming, the way he plays, his drumming personality, he looks great in shorts.” [Allman] “He does.” [Howard] “He looks really good.” |
The Used have “hired” drummer Dan Whitesides, but their press material doesn’t list him as an “official” member yet. The band is in Europe this month on tour, and they’ll be back in the United States at the end of June to play the Warped Tour. |
