THE USED FANS GET TASTE OF NEW ALBUM

The Used are currently headlining the Taste Of Chaos tour with 30 Seconds To Mars, Senses Fail, Chiodos, Saosin, Aiden, and others. The band is using the tour to support a live CD/DVD called Berth, and to preview their forthcoming album Lies For The Liars, which is due in stores May 22.

The Used’s guitarist Quinn Allman and bassist Jepha Howard talked about the mindset with performing new songs and the Taste Of Chaos tour.

[Allman] “I don’t know. We’re having fun. We’re loving every single minute of it I think. I had a good chance to take a break and figure out what we wanted to do and get a new al… We have a new album that’s coming out, just getting to play the new stuff, and it just all feels brand new again.” [Howard] “We’ve played seven songs as a whole. Not every day, I’m telling you that. We usually play about four a day.” [Allman] “Yeah, four.” [Howard] “But since the tour started we’ve played seven songs off the new record. I looked it up on the interweb yesterday, and they were all on there.” [Allman] “Did you know that the internet is the lining in your swim trunks? ” [Howard] “That’s a good point. So the internet is actually pretty gross and smells like chlorine.” [Allman] “Yeah.”

The Used’s fans have the CD/DVD live album Berth, which was released on February 6, but there hasn’t been new material since In Love And Death, which was released back in 2004. The duo was asked which of the new songs go over the best on the Taste Of Chaos tour.

[Allman] “Well…” [Howard] “Actually all of them. More than expected actually.” Yeah, I think that the rhythm that’s kind of perpetually in us now and it’s in the record, it’s with us live, when we’re just messing around, it’s a lot more…. All the new songs are really, you can just bop your head to or freak out to.” [Howard] “…and Backbony. [sic]”

The Rockstar Taste Of Chaos is in its third year, and The Used, who are part organizers of the fest, talked about how it’s grown.

[Howard] “I think it’s more defined than it was. When we first started it was like, ‘Hey we’re going to try this place, we’re going to go here, we’re going to go here.’ before they did it.” [Allman] “The tour is a little more organized. Morganized.”

The Used are out on Taste Of Chaos in support or Berth and their first single from the album, “The Bird And The Worm.” It is available at iTunes and other digital stores. Another new song, “Handsome Awkward,” is currently available from the used at TheUsed.net. The Taste Of Chaos tour wraps up April 6 in Calgary, Alberta. The Used will play the Give It A Name festival in the U.K. in late April.
