THE TONYS WILD ABOUT HARRY
Stripping down to pajama bottoms really paid off for crooner Harry Connick Jr. who was nominated for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical for The Pajama Game. At the recent Meet The Nominees soiree atop New York’s Marriott Marquis Harry talks about being part of the elite membership of Tony nominees. |
Harry is happy to be among the other nominees in his category and can’t even think about the prospect of winning the Tony. |
“You think about the history of the Tonys and all of the people who have been nominated and who won in the past and it’s a pretty exclusive list of people. To be among those folks is kind of crazy. It really is a great honor. I felt like I was embraced by the community first day of rehearsal. Everybody’s been so nice. I think everybody knows the type of immense respect I have for the theater and the people involved in theater and in Broadway. To get a Tony nomination is an additional confirmation of that. It’s thrilling, it really is.” |
The Pajama Game was nominated for nine Tony Awards including Kelli O’Hara for best actress, Kathleen Marshall for best choreographer, and Best revival of a musical. You can route for Harry when The Tony Awards are broadcast live on June 11 at 8PM on CBS. |
“Acceptance speech! I don’t plan on accepting anything. I’ll be there but I’m not going there to win, I’m going to support the community and the show. Just to be a part of it is really all I want to do, you know.” |
