Stripping down to pajama bottoms really paid off for crooner Harry Connick Jr. who was nominated for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical for The Pajama Game. At the recent Meet The Nominees soiree atop New York’s Marriott Marquis Harry talks about being part of the elite membership of Tony nominees.

Harry is happy to be among the other nominees in his category and can’t even think about the prospect of winning the Tony.

“You think about the history of the Tonys and all of the people who have been nominated and who won in the past and it’s a pretty exclusive list of people. To be among those folks is kind of crazy. It really is a great honor. I felt like I was embraced by the community first day of rehearsal. Everybody’s been so nice. I think everybody knows the type of immense respect I have for the theater and the people involved in theater and in Broadway. To get a Tony nomination is an additional confirmation of that. It’s thrilling, it really is.”

The Pajama Game was nominated for nine Tony Awards including Kelli O’Hara for best actress, Kathleen Marshall for best choreographer, and Best revival of a musical. You can route for Harry when The Tony Awards are broadcast live on June 11 at 8PM on CBS.

“Acceptance speech! I don’t plan on accepting anything. I’ll be there but I’m not going there to win, I’m going to support the community and the show. Just to be a part of it is really all I want to do, you know.”
