THE STARTER WIFE INSPIRED BY REALITY

When we last left Molly played by Debra Messing in the Malibu Colony on The Starter Wife she was contemplating a romance with homeless hunk Sam who may or may not be involved with the disappearance of studio head Lou Manahan.

The series is based on the novel by Gigi Levangie Grazer who watched these women pick up the pieces.

“The inspiration came to me looking at women and how they reinvent themselves after going through such a period. I saw a woman in Malibu Colony who was unmarred by this experience and I watched her reinvent herself and reevaluate her life and move on in a better way than she was before.”

Molly is dumped by her husband who takes up with pop tartlet Shoshanna based on another famous pop star from Gigi’s novel.

“In the book Britney Spears is the other woman. I mean it’s just a brief little thing. I picked Britney because she’s so likable really and so adorable that even if she were the second wife or quite possibly how could you not like her? She’s like a bird with a broken wing right now. You just want to take her into your care and I think she’s so talented and everything so I was really happy to use her in that way and I hope she likes it.”

An all new episode of The Starter Wife airs Thursday at 9PM on the USA Network.
