THE SAG AWARDS HONORS BEST ACTORS IN MOVIES AND TV
Hugh Laurie, Chandra Wilson, Alec Baldwin and America Ferrera won Screen Actors Guild Awards for outstanding performances in comedy and drama series. |
Outstanding acting is the focus for the 13th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards where honors were given out for best male and female actors in a drama series. |
Hugh Laurie won for House and made good on his promise to his therapist not to thank everybody he knows, while Chandra Wilson winning for Grey’s Anatomy thanked her cast members, even the one in rehab. |
Chandra: “It’s about those ten cast members sittin’ over there and the other one in rehab. I mean you all just hold me together. I thank you all so much because we pull this thing off every week and I love you all for it. And last but not least just to be able to take this thing home to my girls in particular and hold it in front of them and say look with this skin and this nose and this height and these arms. I’m here. Thank you Screen Actors Guild for taking me as I am. Thank you.” Hugh: “Every day I’m extremely grateful for the chance to play what is to me a fascinating character, to do it here in America. I’m British by the way which accounts for why I’m so smooth. And to do it at a time where American television drama it seems to me is absolutely at it’s zenith.” |
The actor for outstanding male and female actor in a comedy series went to Alec Baldwin for 30 Rock who thanked his mother and camera focus puller. America Ferrera fresh from her Golden Globe win won for Ugly Betty. |
America: “I think that what’s so special about being in this room is that I look out and see faces that have inspired me and moved me my entire life since I was a wee little one. And being here honored by these faces is more than I can express. I think what’s amazing is that we share a common knowledge of struggle and of rejection and now of success.” Alec: “I want to thank our writers of course, no sitcom works without good writing. Tina Fey, our cast, our crew especially Jonathan the focus puller who at my age misses the mark every now and then and shaves six or eight years off my close-ups out there at Silvercup. Thank you Jonathan very much.” |
The cast of The Mary Tyler Moore show reunited to honor fellow comedians giving the actor for outstanding ensemble in a comedy series to The Office. Grey’s Anatomy star Ellen Pompeo got tongue tied forgetting the names of Kate Burton and Isaiah Washington who weren’t there while accepting outstanding ensemble in a drama series. |
