THE ROCK REACHES OUT TO JUVENILE DELINQUENTS
(VIDEO) Dwayne The Rock Johnson felt compassionate to tell the true story of imprisoned juvenile delinquents who become saved by football program in Gridiron Gang. |
In Gridiron Gang the crew made use of 130 prisoners doing their time at an actual juvenile detention camp to take part in the film starring Dwayne The Rock Johnson as camp probation officer Sean Porter who rehabilitates his charges with football. Johnson a member of Miami’s NCAA national championship football team in 1991 was motivated by the inmates’ presence to tell their true story. |
As National Spokesperson for After-School All-Stars, a national provider of after-school programs for children, The Rock is committed to working with troubled teens. |
“And what you realize is these kids recognize that they did bad, recognize they made bad decisions and they get motivated. That was motivating for us to see them and see them, ‘like wow this is our life. This really happened. We can be somebody.’ It’s so simple, the message. Don’t ever quit, don’t ever give up and even though you’re locked up you are somebody and you will get a second chance.” |
Gridiron Gang opens Friday in theaters nationwide.rn |
“I’ve worked with a lot of troubled youth for a lot of years and I still do so it reaffirmed because a lot of times in Hollywood there’s so much going on and to portray a guy like Sean Porter, a self less guy in a thankless job like thousands of men and women in the probation system who just care about these kids every day, live breathe, eat in the prison thankless job. They care.” |
