THE PRESIDENTS OF THE USA FEEL THESE ARE THE GOOD TIMES
The Presidents of The United States of America have released their new album and a new video directed by Weird Al and they feel these are the best of times |
The Presidents of the United States of America have released their first album in 3 years and the album, titled These are the Good Times People is filled with catchy Pop songs the band is known for. Having become a Pop success in the 90’s with hit songs like “Lump” and “Peaches,” which catapulted the band to 4.5 million in sales for their debut album and garnered multiple Grammy nominations as well, These are the Good Times People also is the first album with Andrew McKeag, who takes over on a permanent basis for former President Dave Dederer. |
We caught up with drummer, Jason Finn to get his thoughts on the band continuously looking for lost gems, even if that means going back to their old library of unused songs from the past. |
“Songwriting on our new album is not really all that different than our other albums. In fact, some of the songs are from the ’80s, some from the ’90s and some 5 minutes before we recorded them. We always kind of go through the files, the old cassettes, the Dictaphone tapes for lost gems. You know it’s easier than writing a whole new batch of songs. We like to be efficient that way.” |
The Presidents of the United States of America have also released the album’s first single, “Mixed up S.O.B.” and the video was directed by the legendary Weird Al Yankovic, whom the band has a relationship with since Weird Al made a parody of the hit song “Lump.” We talked with Jason about how the band approached Weird Al to director their latest video. |
“Yeah, well Weird Al obviously we go way back with Al because of ‘Gump’ in the ’90s and that was our little contribution to the Pop parody game. Chris and Al sort of kept in touch over the years and Chris was down here in L.A. visiting and having dinner with Al and the subject kind of casually came up that Al directs videos. He, Lo and behold was willing to take a dramatic, dramatic cut in pay to work with us. And for that we really appreciate the gesture.” |
The Presidents of The United States of America have finished their tour of The U.S. in support of These are the Good Times People. The band will next head to Europe with dates beginning April 10th in Eindhoven and extending until June 7th in Berlin. |
