THE MYSTERY BEHIND OZOMATLI’S LIVE DVD
Los Angeles’ own Grammy award winning Latin Funk Hip Hop Percussive Multi Cultural Brass outfit Ozomatli, have had quite a year. Having recently released their hit album ‘Street Signs,’ Ozomatli have also put together their first live DVD titled ‘Live at the Fillmore.’ The DVD, which is accompanied by a CD, was shot at the famous Fillmore Auditorium in San Francisco and features blazing renditions of many of the bands classic hits, which blend an awesome array of horns, turntables, percussive instruments, strong socially conscious lyrics and vocals all based around an incredibly tight rhythm section of bass, guitar and drums. |
Sometimes having a camera crew around to film an entire show for a DVD can be quite intrusive and even create obstacles for a band on both an audio and video level as well. We caught up with Ozomatli’s Raul Pacheco and Ulises Bella to talk about the new DVD and if it was a night at the legendary Fillmore where everything went right. |
“No, I don’t think it all clicked. I think we had some problems with the audio truck that was basically a studio on wheels outside. And there were a couple of things that were just missing. So, we had to do a bunch of doctoring to a certain point.” Ozomatli’s guitarist Raul Pecheco jumped in “You shouldn’t say those things. That should be a mystery.” Ulises Bella agreed “Yeah, it should be a mystery. It was all live and it was all perfect. Yeah, the spirit of Jimi Hendrix came into me at the Fillmore and I had a perfect show.” |
Having recently completed a tour of Europe and a brief run of shows with Los Lonely Boys, Ozomatli have announced a run of tour dates that will have the band playing in St Louis, Tijuana Mexico and Hawaii, to name just a few stops. Jackson Browne recently brought in a gospel choir and Ozomatli to help Browne record a remake of his song‘Lives in the Balance’ so you can imagine how amazing that will be. Ozomatli also have plans of heading back into the studio by the end of the year to start work on recording their follow up to the Grammy winning album ‘Street Signs.’ |
