THE MAGIC NUMBERS TO ROLL THE BROKES
The Magic Numbers are rolling for the summer when Those The Brokes is released in the US July 3. |
The Magic Numbers have been one of the most popular rock bands in the U.K. for the last few years, but they’ll soon spring their sophomore effort on the U.S. The band’s Those The Brokes has been circulating for some time in the U.K., but it will hit stores officially in the U.S. July 3. The four-piece is truly original featuring two pairs of siblings. The Magic Numbers feaure Romeo Stodart on vocals/guitar, Michelle Stodart on bass and vocals, Angela Gannon on Melodica/wurlitzer and vocals, and Sean Gannon on drums. |
The Magic Numbers talked about what the biggest obstacle was in getting the new album done. |
[Romeo] “It was a lot easier than making the first one to be honest, but I think this time around what we went for was just capturing more energy from the group than on the first record. And having been on the road for a year-and-a-half. The studio we worked in had a major hall, so we wanted to capture some of that atmosphere, and the way we worked it it was all bringing those things out of the record, and in the songs.” [Michelle] “Yeah, definitely. I think it was a case this time around to be involved with it a lot more and to get what we had in our heads down on to record.” [Romeo] “It’s kind of weird because you sort of hear something, and it takes a while before you get what you had in your head… and we had a lot of fun making it. [Michelle] “Arguments!” [Romeo] “We tend to forget those, but they were very crucial in the making of this album.” |
And speaking of arguments how does a band consisting of two brother and sister pairs settle their differences? |
[Romeo] “How do they take place, Ange?” [Michelle] “Walking out, slamming doors…” [Angela] “A look. A look could spur the biggest argument there would ever be, especially between these two (points to Romeo and Michelle). Between me and Sean, I could probably say something stupid and that would be it, or he would say something stupid…” [Sean] “We argue every day.” [Michelle] “We’re arguing now.” [Romeo] “We’re arguing within this, honestly. You can’t hear it though, or can you? (laughs). We tend to laugh things off in a swearing way. [Michelle] “Those The Brokes do.” |
The Magic Numbers recently appeared in the U.S. for a handful of club shows, and their ’70s style rock/pop is a fresh alternative to what’s currently in the music scene. They count among their fans Noel Gallagher from Oasis, Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys, and Ringo Starr of The Beatles. |
