The Leevees are getting ready to rock Hanukkah with an original album of songs about about a forgotten musical holiday, Hanukkah. |
The Leevees have finally put together a Hanukkah album filled with songs about Latkas, rabbis and jewish stars centered around a holiday beat. For some reason Hanukkah has been a forgotten holiday in terms of songs and music to sing around the menorah, however Adam Gardner and Dave Schneider of The Leevees made it their goal to incorporate rock and roll music with the time honored tradition of Hanukkah. |
In the past there has been so many Christmas songs ingrained in the fabric of our society we wondered how the inspiration for writing Hanukkah songs started. |
“I think a lot of the motivation for making Hanukkah rocks is there just isn’t any good Hanukkah music out there. Certainly nothing that’s rock and roll. So this was our opportunity to do that. So we said ‘Well, let’s write it ourselves.’ We didn’t understand, some of our favorite Christmas songs were written by Jews. Irving Berlin wrote ‘White Christmas.’ We didn’t he write any Hanukkah songs? I don’t know why so here we are two Jews writing Hanukkah songs. The whole thing started, Adam has a band called Guster and I have a band called Zamboni and we went on tour a couple of years ago and Adam just said to me lets write some songs together and I said ‘Yeah sure.’ But I thought he was just floating my boat and he said ‘We should write songs about being Jewish’ and the lights went off in both of our heads and we went back to the bus and started cranking out these songs and the rest is history. The Leevees have a handful of dates for the holidays as the band tours in support of the debut release ‘Hanukkah Rocks.’ Look for Adam, who has a day job in the band Guster to get back to touring in support of Guster’s latest release ‘Ganging up on the Sun.’ It was also announced that Guster will be performing on the Ships and Dips Cruise with The Barenaked Ladies, which departs Florida January 15th extending until January 19th. |
