THE IRISH ARE SMILING ON 300
The Irish were definitely smiling on 300 over the St. Patrick’s Day weekend continuing their reign over the box office with $31 million bringing the film’s total winnings to $127 million since it’s opening weekend. |
Director Zack Snyder talks about fulfilling graphic novelist Frank Miller’s artistic vision. |
“The movie comes from the graphic novel that was written by Frank Miller. It was my responsibility to get his paintings that he and Lynn did and make a movie out of it. All my artists and all my technicians and friends and everyone who worked on the movie, we all had that singular vision so I just hope that that was the experience of watching it.” |
Zack describes his style of cinematography to make the film look like a moving painting. |
“I come from the commercial and music video world. That’s like those are my tools in a weird way. When I go into post production and start working on the coloring of the movie, that’s as natural to me as anything and it’s as fun as anything. In some ways, yes, it’s extreme but in other ways it’s just what I think looks good.” |
Some of Zack’s earlier work that would lay the foundation for his film making were music videos for Morrissey and commercials for Budweiser. Snyder is quickly becoming the go to guy for graphic novels. His next feature film based on Alan Moore’s comic Watchmen is currently in the works. |
