THE HUNTING PARTY PREMIERE
The Hunting Party stars each had their own way of partying off screen. |
The Hunting Party had it’s New York premiere featuring Richard Gere and Terrence Howard who star as war correspondents tracking down the scoop of a lifetime, the elusive Bosnian war criminal known as The Fox. |
Based on a true story, the film deals with the serious subject of genocide in the war torn region of Sarajevo, but Gere and Howard found time to unwind on location there. Gere’s time off was more about work than pleasure. |
“Not me, not me. I’m home at night you know. I’m married happily with kids. There’s someone else here, hmm, who isn’t married and who would that be? Yeah I was always off looking for people and places and events that would stimulate me and make me feel really comfortable playing this part so it was a part of my experience and it wasn’t something I had to lay on top but something I felt it was mine I could own. I mean there’s so many tragedies. You go to the place on the bridge, they’ll take you and say, ‘this is where the first girl was killed by a sniper from up there.’ And the Serbian sniper was right up over there, could point to it and this is where the girl died, ‘they left some of the blood right here, see?’ So you find that all over the city.” |
And when Gere wasn’t exploring Sarajevo, he was having jam sessions with Howard, an accomplished musician himself. |
“Oh with Gere and me. Gere plays an incredible guitar. I don’t know if everybody knows that. He’s the most incredible guitar player and he’s got a real knack for running scales. I’m a big chord man and he taught me a lot of great scales. But he also made me push myself to be better. I asked him to do a couple of scales for me in a song and he forced me to learn them myself so he’s a great mentor. But that was just privately. On the screen I sucked.” |
Howard had to fake his expertise in the film by teaching himself to play guitar with Ramones songs. Squid And The Whale star Jesse Eisenberg is the third wheel on their action packed road trip. The Hunting Party opens September 7th in theaters nationwide. |
