THE GROOMSMEN CAST TALK ABOUT FATHERHOOD
(VIDEO)The Groomsmen stars Edward Burns, Matthew Lillard and Donal Logue related to their characters struggle with fatherhood being fathers in real life. |
In the film The Groomsmen Edward Burns’ character is engaged to be married and about to be a father for the first time. Having children of his own was an inspiration for the writer director whose daughter Grace was born during filming. He is also the proud father of Finn. |
Matthew Lillard plays a father to two boys in the film and one to daughters Macey and Addison in real life. Matthew who is often seen playing goofy characters as in Scooby-Doo has finally locked onto a role that he can relate to. |
“I had a baby nineteen months ago this is just what I’m obsessed with now. I’ve dealt with father son stories before so this is kind of the flip side to my trying to look at the other side of that relationship.” |
Even though Donal Logue who plays Edward Burns brother doesn’t share the same fatherless fate of his character having kids of his own, he saw the film as a timely story of how life changes when you have children. |
“And in that scene I say to them, ‘look what is your life without kids. It’s just free time. What’s free time?’ And I remember as I was driving home that night thinking that was like the truest words I had ever spoken in a movie. So for me it’s really exciting as an actor because I can use. You’re running from a ghost or you’re not running from scary things. The great thing about doing an Eddie Burns movie is that you’re talking and dealing with stuff that means something to me as a man.” |
“It felt particularly apropos in this time in my life having kids, just kind of what people were going through in that stage of their life and having that sense of what do you miss when you have children.” |
