THE FRAY TO RECORD BEATLES SGT PEPPERS, DATES POSTPONED
The Fray are among a cast of musicians set to record a tribute to The Beatles Sgt Peppers album. |
The Fray has had a whirlwind year, from hit singles to Grammy nominations, but now they’re doing a recording for the ages. The band will join the likes of Oasis, The Killers, Kaiser Chiefs, Razorlight, and James Morrison for the album, which will be released on June 2. What’s so special about the project is that it will be recorded in the same studio as the original Sgt. Peppers album using all the vintage gear. |
The Fray talked about the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. |
“We just got invited, which is unbelievable, to record The Beatles Sgt. Peppers record with pretty much with some of the biggest bands in the world in London this May. We’re floored because it’s with all the original guys, with all the original equipment. The BBC is putting this thing on. So that’s next, and that’s exciting, so…” |
The band then discussed taking a cue from The Beatles. |
“A lot, I’d say. I think we took a cue early on that there’s a dynamic at work. They split everything and it works, so we do the same (thing).” |
Meanwhile, The Fray were forced to postpone two shows — April 30 and May 1, in Champaign Illinois and Kansas City, respectively — due to a family emergency. The band are planning on rescheduling, but nothing has been booked at press time. |
