THE FRATELLIS HAVE LABEL IN THEIR POCKET
Due to the Fratellis hit song “Chelsea Dagger,” and their successful Costello Music CD, the band made demands for the new CD Here We Stand, says Jon. |
The Fratellis have released their sophomore effort Here We Stand, which is their follow-up to their 2006 debut album Costello Music. The band was one of the most buzzed about artists in the U.K. at that time and the album reached Number 2 in the U.K. and Number 48 in the United States. |
With plenty of festival gigs and the press in their palms, the Glasgow band had leverage when it came to getting their new album done. We asked Jon Fratelli what the biggest obstacle was in getting the record done, and he said it was getting their label to do what they wanted. |
“Do you know, I can’t think of any major thing that we had to sort of overcome to do it. I suppose telling your record label that for your second album you don’t want a producer, and not only do you not want a producer, but you want them to give you money to buy a studio. That’s probably the biggest thing, but then that was quite easy. It’s a Glasgow thing. You’ve got that sort of nonchalance. When you ask a question you almost convince a person to give a positive answer as you ask it. I don’t know how quite that works. It didn’t seem too hard. Maybe it was. Maybe behind the scenes our manager had to do a lot of bargaining.” |
The Fratellis recently played New York City’s Roseland Ballroom on a tour that also includes The Airborne Toxic Event. U.S. dates are scheduled through October 4 in Hartford, Connecticut. |
