THE COVENANT ACTORS GET WIRED
Director Renny Harlin is continuing his fascination with the occult. After directing Exorcist:The Beginning he is now delving into the world of witches and warlocks in The Covenant. The Finnish filmmaker who insisted on the actors in the film doing their own stunts borrowed a computer flying device that was created for the acrobats of Cirque du Soleil. |
The Covenant which inspired four graphic novels from writer J.S. Cardone’s original screenplay has a look all it’s own. |
“We have created a wire system that has been used for the first time in motion pictures. It’s a computerized flying system where we can really make these warlocks move through the air and up and down and sideways and do these very exciting and rough and sometimes balletic moves. And really using the actors instead of stunt people so we’ve taken the actors and trained them for months on these rigs.” |
Harlin also uses the technique of playing different types of music on set to get the right emotions from the actors that is needed for the scene. The Covenant opens today in theaters nationwide.rn |
“I didn’t want to make a film that would look like other comic book movies. In general there are two types of comic book movies. There are the sort of very colorful, very bright oversaturated comic book movies. And then there are sort of the dark brooding comic book movies and we wanted to create our own style.” |
