THE BANGKOK FIVE, NOTHING TO FALL BACK ON AND LOVING IT
The Bangkok Five have hit the road Do it Yourself style in a converted bus and the band has nothing to fall back on but each other and their music, and that suits the band just fine. Many up and coming band have a plan b just in case their dreams don’t go as planned in the music industry but not Bangkok Five, in fact with nothing to fall back on they are free from distractions and able to put in 110 percent on a daily basis, which is just what you need to get your music to stand out. We caught up with The Bangkok Five just outside the legendary Viper Room in Hollywood, California to discuss their new album ‘Who’s Gonna Take Us Alive?’ and having nothing to fall back on. |
Lead vocalist Frost went on to add his thoughts on making an imprint in music today. |
“I think key for any artist, whether you’re a stand up comedian which is probably the toughest thing you can do, an actor, an actress, a model, a musician or a graphic artist or whatever, if you have something to fall back on you probably will because it’s easy to do that. All of us know people that we’ve lost and you don’t know how long you’re here so you just have to go for it. Whether you’re an athlete or a ballerina, whether you’re a lawyer whatever, you have to throw everything in 100 percent everyday because you may not have many more days.’ Bassist Greg Coatez went on to add “So that’s exactly what our title reflects ‘Who’s Gonna Take Us Alive?’ This is it, this is what we have and everything is going into this thing a hundred and ten percent, everyday.” |
Lead guitarist Holcomb also talked about responsibilities and leaving those liabilities behind so the band can keep their focus on the music. |
“So to make an imprint this day an age the only way to do it is throw all caution to the wind and completely go for it.’ Lead guitarist went on to add “You know you said something profound. You said responsibilities to us those are liabilities not responsibilities. To me it’s a liability to have these other concerns in the back of your mind. Like Greg said, we’re putting everything into this and when you have something else that’s a concern you aren’t able to focus and be in the moment about what you’re doing.” |
The bands full-length debut on Execution Style/Universal Records ‘Who’s Gonna Take Us Alive?’ comes on the heels of releasing their ’10 the Hard Way’ EP in Spring 2005. The band followed their EP release with a solid five-month tour of America, which they booked themselves on MySpace. Already with dates at South by Southwest in Austin Texas and dates on the Warped Tour this summer, look for the band to continue making their musical imprint, one show at a time, one city at a time near you. |
