TERRENCE HOWARD DIVES INTO PRIDE
Terrence Howard is portraying Jim Ellis in Pride, the resilient swim coach who turned a dilapidated recreation center in Philadelphia into a competitive training program for inner city kids giving them a sense of pride in themselves. |
Terrence talks about what attracted him to the role. |
“Being able to play a man who has been so instrumental in creating strong young men black and white, infusing a community with a sense of pride, and the determination and resilience that we needed to have; learning how to swim.” |
Jim Ellis was on hand to give swimming lessons to Howard turning him into a more efficient swimmer. |
“Before the movie my experience swimming was you know I could get across the pool. I mean I swam two miles off the coast of the Cayman Islands and back but I realize I could’ve done it with greater ease if I’d known the proper technique. It’s like learning to lace up your shoes before running a marathon you could actually get a lot further. And I’d been swimming my whole life with unlaced shoes basically and I finally learned how to properly tie my shoes.” |
Terrence was impressed with Evan Ross, Diana’s son making his feature debut as Reggie, the street thug who turns his life around with the swim team. Pride is currently playing in theaters. |
