T.I. RELEASED ON $3 MILLION BAIL

Rapper T.I. was released on $3 million bail bond on Friday (October 26th). He put up $2 million in cash and $1 million in equity on property he owns. As he left Atlanta’s federal courthouse, T.I. said, “I want to thank all the fans for their support. Due to the severity of the situation, I can’t say much more. I want to get all of this behind me.” |
T.I., whose real name is Clifford Harris, is facing possession of unregistered manchine guns and silencers and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon charges following his arrest on October 13th. The rapper was arrested as part an Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearm’s sting operation. T.I. was set up by his bodyguard, who was apprehended earlier this month attempting to buy machine guns and silencers. Upon his arrest, the bodyguard stated that he was purchasing the weapons for T.I. and that the artist had a stash of over 25 weapons. According to the criminal complaint, on the day of his arrest, T.I. was attempting to purchase several machine guns and silencers. As the bodyguard was explaining to the rapper how one silencer functioned, the rapper allegedly said, “No flash, no bang.” |
“I was surprised that I wasn’t get more. You know just being how many prestigous entertatiners it is from the south. And how many people it is with more money than me. I’m surprised that I’m the person who gave the most amount of money you know to the cause. But I won’t complain. I’ll just be thankful that I can even get that much up.” |
Police found three guns and a half of pound of marijuana in the rapper’s car. A search of his home turned up several more guns. |
T.I.’s bail comes with many conditions including house arrest where he will be monitored 24 hours a day at his own expense. He was also required to surrender his passport, not to own any guns and to stay away from witnesses and informants in the case. His visitors must be approved and he can only leave his home for medical appointments and court appearances. The rapper’s next court date is November 5th. |
While T.I. has had his share of run-ins with the law, he’s also done a lot of positive things. After raising funds for Hurricane Katrina victims, the rapper shared that he was surprised as how little some of his peers contributed. He said, |
