SUPERBAD SCRIBES WRITE ABOUT THEMSELVES
Superbad writers Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg wrote about their high school experiences. |
High school buddies Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg wrote the germ of the script for Superbad when they were still attending classes in Vancouver, Canada. |
Born out of their need to impress the girls by buying them liquor for their party was very accurate to their own high school experience. In the film Seth is played by Jonah Hill and Evan by Michael Cera. |
“It’s pretty hard to make a direct comparison. Like Seth was not that freaking out. He was a pretty relaxed guy in high school and I was not terrified of women to the most insane degree. But I wasn’t the most courageous fellow on earth. I was definitely kind of like the jerky guy out of the two of us and Evan kind of the nicer, more normal guy. And the Fogell character really is not so similar to the real Fogell. But you know what’s funny was as we wrote it, it was really different from the real Fogell but Chris is really in a weird way, he’s a lot like Fogell was in high school in a lot of ways. Just a really strange confidence to him but people really had the sense that they wanted to pick on Fogell.” |
Fogell aka McLovin was found after a nationwide search in high school drama departments, where Christopher Mintz-Plasse was discovered making his film and acting debut. His only prior experience was with an improv comedy team in high school and elementary school plays. |
“Like I never thought I would act like in my life and I guess they’d been looking for this role for Fogell for a really long time. So they sent e-mails, the casting agents sent e-mails to teachers. I guess people that work at schools that were looking for this part like a nerdy character kind of thing. And my friend’s mom works at a school so he got the e-mail and he went to audition, but he told me, ‘oh yeah you look like you could fit the part,’ so why not just come down with us.’ So I went with two of my friends and we auditioned and I got called back like three times and I got the part.” |
Chris got to leave high school for two months and was tutored on set while filming Superbad, but actually returned when the movie wrapped to complete his senior year. |
