SUPERBAD DRINKING UNDERAGE
Superbad stars did a bit of fake underage imbibing in the film, but also admit to trying to buy alcohol before turning 21. |
Drinking beer at parties when you’re in high school was pretty much a rite of passage for most of us. In the film Superbad Jonah Hill volunteers to supply the liquor when the girl of his dreams invites him to her party providing he brings the booze. |
Jonah who is 24 in real life playing a high school geek remembers what it was like to be under age and wanting to buy alcohol. |
“Yeah I would ask homeless gentleman near my high school to buy us alcohol. Most of the time it ended with them taking the money or the alcohol or both. And there’s really nothing we could do about it because they outcrazied us. I couldn’t be combative, well I’m gonna intimidate you by doing this because they had already intimidated me. Being a homeless gentleman if someone was gonna steal something from you I would intimidated enough, I’m too much of a wuss.” |
Probably one of the hardest things to do as an actor is to act drunk. Jonah, and his buddy played by Michael Cera give away their trade secrets. |
“You think back on times when you have been drunk yourself. Michael: It’s like acting shocked. You have to pretend. You have to fake it. Jonah: You think about something or someone you saw who was drunk and you emulate that without actually being drunk. That’s how I did it. I don’t know how these guys did it. Michael: I was drunk through the majority of the shooting. It was acting not drunk that was the trick.” |
By the way no real alcohol was consumed during the filming of Superbad. Instead water doubled for vodka, apple juice for the hard stuff, and non-alcoholic beer was used during the partying scenes. |
