SUGARHILL GANG WORKING ON A COMEBACK
The Sugarhill Gang changed the face of popular music when they released “Rapper’s Delight” in 1979. The song would become the first rap song to crossover and enjoy mainstream radio play. Today the song is still one of the more universally recognized rap songs of all time but the group is ready to move on. |
Group member Wonder MIke explained that the group is working on a new album and has dropped the Sugarhill gang name. He said, |
“It’s called Better Than Ever and the new name is called MG Squad. We parted with Sugarhill Gang. It was time to do something else. I got to bite my tongue. It was time to do something else. I’m hungry. I can’t stay in one damn place.” |
The Sugarhill Gang released three full length albums: 1980’s Sugarhill Gang, 1982’s 8th Wonder, and 1999’s Jump On It!. |
