SNOW PATROL STILL AN INDIE BAND AT HEART
Snow Patrol are enjoying major success with their latest album “A Hundred Million Suns” and the band still consider themselves an indie band. |
Snow Patrol are once again enjoying commercial success, this time with the release of their latest album “A Hundred Million Suns” which is the bands follow up album to 2006’s “Eyes Open.” On the strength of the bands first single “Take Back the City” the album shot to #2 on the UK Rock Chart and #9 on The Billboard Top 200. It hasn’t always been easy for Snow Patrol, especially after the first two albums “Songs for Polarbears” and “When It’s All Over We Still Have to Clear Up” both were unsuccessful in terms of album sales. However the band were signed to major label Polydor Records before the release of 2003’s “Final Straw” and after being certified 4 Times Platinum, it was clear Snow Patrol achieved the worldwide success they always dreamed of. |
Artisan News caught up with Gary Lightbody of Snow Patrol to get his thoughts on the band still considering themselves Indie at heart. |
“Getting signed in the first place, nobody wanted to sign us because we had two albums out already and they weren’t very successful to put it mildly. I think a lot of people thought that we were damaged goods and it was really when we met Polydor and Fiction in the U.K. But they took a chance on us and have supported us brilliantly ever since. And through those guys Interscope and A&M in The States have been amazing for us. It’s like being in a family, which I never thought I would say about a major label because I’m an Indie kid at heart.” |
Snow Patrol are currently touring The U.S. in support of “A Hundred Million Suns” with dates extending until December 14th in Los Angeles, Ca for KROQ’s Almost Acoustic Xmas. The band will be joined on the second night by The Cure, The Killers, Franz Ferdinand, Death Cab for Cutie and a special solo performance by Scott Weiland. After taking off some time to be with their friends and family for the holidays, Snow Patrol will then start a tour of The U.K. beginning Feb 22nd and running until March 23rd. Snow Patrol recently announced a run of dates in Australia at the end of March and the beginning of April of 2009. |
