SMASHING PUMPKINS, FOO FIGHTERS, CORNELL, VELVET REVOLVER, KID ROCK HELP KROQ INVADE LA
Without question, Los Angeles’ premiere alternative rock radio station KROQ 106.7 has been influential in the careers of many Rock N Roll bands. Without getting radio play in one of America’s top 2 market’s New York or L.A. it’s quite difficult, but not impossible for bands to break through. Whether bringing KROQ’s Almost Acoustic X-Mas in Winter or KROQ’s Weenie Roast in Summer, the station has always brought their fans a wide array of talent in the live concerts they put together. And for years, KROQ has brought fans their Inland Invasion, but to close the Summer of 2007 they decided to stay a little closer to home with their first ever LA Invasion. LA Invasion, which took place September 15th at The Home Depot Center in Carson, California brought together a heavy weight lineup which featured sets from The Smashing Pumpkins, The Foo Fighters, Velvet Revolver, Chris Cornell, Perry Farrell’s Satalitte Party, Kid Rock, Cypress Hill, Paramore, Against Me! and Hot Hot Heat. Photographer Brian Yates was on hand to capture the first and hopefully not the last of KROQ’s LA Invasion. |
For many fans in attendance this was a chance to check out some of the artists who were major players in Rock in the 1990’s and who continue to be at the forefront of the music scene today. With Billy Corgan back touring with his band The Smashing Pumpkins, Velvet Revolver sporting members of Guns N Roses and Stone Temple Pilots, The Foo Fighters being put together by former Nirvana member Dave Grohl, Perry Farrell performing songs from his old band, Janes Addiction and Chris Cornell running through hit songs from Soundgarden, Temple of the Dog and Audioslave, LA Invasion featured quite an amazing lineup from start to finish. Even though The Smashing Pumpkins closed the show, it was clear that the best set of the day was turned in by The Foo Fighters as Dave Grohl thrilled the crowd by running through the audience to the soundboard and back all while performing guitar. |
