SMASHING PUMPKINS AND JIMMY CHAMBERLIN GIVE NO REASON FOR SPLIT
Smashing Pumpkins aka Billy Corgan and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin have parted ways, and neither side will give details fueling speculation. |
Smashing Pumpkins and Jimmy Chamberlin have parted ways, but a press release didn’t give any reason for the split. Speculation has been running rampant, ranging from Corgan being maniacal to Chamberlin departing with the most serious of diseases. In the coming weeks Artisan News will be digging for the reasons for the break-up, but if past conversations are any test, it doesn’t seem to be a personal disagreement. |
We caught up with Chamberlin, during an interview for Jazz-Rock Jimmy Chamberlin Complex prior to the Smashing Pumpkins reforming, and he said at that time that the relationship between him and Corgan goes deeper than a high powered rock band. |
“I think things have changed for the better as far as him and I are concerned. I think it’s important for people to realize that even though… We’re best friends. Just because we’re not in a high powered rock band doesn’t mean we stop being music people, and we continue to write and music is our life. I think when people realize that they’ll have a different kind of respect for us, and I think we can maintain our integrity that way.” |
Chamberlin had been contemplating a follow-up to Jimmy Chamberlin Complex’s 2005 release, Life Begins Again, with writing partner Billy Mohler. Billy Corgan will remain on as the only original member of Smashing Pumpkins. |
