SLAYER DISCUSS SONGWRITING FOR UPCOMING NEW ALBUM WORLD PAINTED BLOOD
Slayer are putting the final touches on their upcoming new album “World Painted Blood” and it will be the bands 10th studio album and their follow up to 2006’s “Christ Illusion” which debuted at #5 on The Billboard Top 200 Chart, making it the bands highest chart position of their career. With “World Painted Blood”, which will be released on November 3 in North America, and on Monday, November 2 to the rest of the world, the original four members of Slayer returned to their songwriting roots with guitarists Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman contributing the majority of the song writing duties while working with Rick Rubin’s protege, producer Greg Fidelman. |
Artisan News caught up with bassist and lead vocalist Tom Araya to get his thoughts on the process of song writing for Slayer on “World Painted Blood” and why it continues to work so well for The Grammy Award winning Metal band. |
“Jeff has his music already ready so he presents it. Kerry has ideas, works them out, puts them on tape, Dave (Lombardo) listens and then they sit down and work it together. You know what I mean, they work it out but it comes together real quick. I’m not sure if being in the studio has inspired Kerry and Jeff but both of them have come up with stuff off the cuff. You know they go back, come back three days later ‘I got this new song! Here’ or Kerry comes back a couple of days later ‘I changed my idea, let’s do this.’ He goes ‘I got a new song.’ So he puts together his guitar parts and then he listens to it. You know what I mean. So he’s come up with some really good stuff actually. A lot of really neat things.” |
“World Painted Blood” will be released in three different versions, a limited edition CD with multiple CD covers, a deluxe edition CD/DVD and a high-quality, 180-gram vinyl edition. The band has already released the first single off the upcoming new album “Psychopathy Red” and later released the second single “Hate Worldwide” which was released exclusively at Hot Topic stores. As of press time the only tour dates Slayer has booked is a brief tour down under kicking off October 5th in Auckland, New Zealand and extending until October 13th in Perth, Australia. Look for Slayer to announce a more extensive run of world wide tour dates closer to the release of “World Painted Blood.” |
