SHINY TOY GUNS GRAMMY STYLE, NOMINATION CATEGORY GAFFE?
Shiny Toy Guns, who loved the style studio, didn’t win for Best Electronic/Dance album, but they were not upset about possible miscategorization. |
It wasn’t exactly Jethro Tull winning the Heavy Metal Grammy award over Metallica in the early days of that category, but Shiny Toy Guns inclusion in the Best Electronic/Dance Album category make a few people scratch their heads. The band was nominated for We Are Pilots, which was up against collections by the Chemical Brothers, Justice, LCD Soundsystem, and Tiesto. |
Shiny Toy Guns bassist and vocalist Carah Faye Charnow said she views the group as a rock band, but in an interview just before the awards, she was OK with being nominated in an electronic category with artists she admires. |
“Oh we love them. We love all of them, especially Justice. And we’ve all loved Chemical Brothers for a long time. I think the boys [in Shiny Toy Guns] did a remix for Tiesto. It’s honored either way to get a nomination, but we’re definitely, of the nominees, we’re definitely on the rock tip, especially in comparison. It’s exciting, and it will really be up to whoever’s decision it is, because we are heavily electronic based too, moreso on our album than live, so…” |
Another part of the Grammy experience is the Style Studio, and this year Rock Band was one of the attractions besides the top name brand designer clothing booths. Carah played Rock Band to Metallica, and talked about the style studio experience. |
“Everyone is so nice. They’re so nice, and so helpful and so…and giving. You get gifts! I don’t know, I guess helpfulness. It’s been a very friendly atmosphere. It’s very inviting.” |
The Chemical Brothers took home the Best Electronic/Dance Album Grammy for We Are The Night. Shiny Toy Guns is in the process of working on a remix collection and starting work on their forthcoming album. We’ll have the skinny on both for you in the coming weeks. |
